Cocoons and Igloos

I've been whittling away the time on this cold and blustery evening on Chictopia.com, and now it is late and I must go to bed. Alas, my weekly favorites post will have to wait another day, but keep an eye out for them! In the meantime, feast your eyes on this beauty by TPWP of "The President Wears Prada":

Fuzzy Was She

I recently acquired this furry jacket and mittens from Urban Outfitters. They were cheap, but very soft, and highly recommended. Today I decided that It was high time I modeled them for you, along with all the other furry things that I own. Now all I need are some furry pants, or better yet, a fuzzy onesie!

It seems that my mind always manages to create some sort of narrative out of each day's outfit photographs. As a special treat (or not, depending on your point of view) I'm going to give you a glimpse into my mind:

Photo #1: "GrrrAhhchoo! Excuse me! There's a twig up my nose...and that wasn't as ferocious as I had intended."

Photo #2: "What, there are no claws in these furry mittens? I guess that means I better pretend to be something harmless like a bunny, although the bunny in Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail was pretty ferocious, so I guess there's always hope."

Photo #3: "Now that I'm finished pretending to be an animal, I can shed some of these excessive fur accessories and look at the lovely presents my dog (a true animal) left on the ground."

Photo #4: "It's sooo warm out. I must remove my gorilla coat and look happily at the sun while stroking my hair as if I'm in some shampoo commercial. This mane is tame."

And that's enough photo commentary, but if you're wondering what happens next in the story, it goes something like this: A cloud came and covered up the sun. I was distraught while witnessing it as you can see in the photo above, but eventually decided it was a good excuse to put my gorilla jacket back on, and I took more photos.

This jacket makes my shoulders look huge, but I don't care. Life is good in the gorilla:

Tiny Horses

I'm wearing black again. I used to hate wearing black. I think I developed this aversion for black because, in art school, painting with black is discouraged when other dark colors work just as well. In fashion, however, black is sleek, chic, and slimming, and I have recently developed a fondness for it. I bought this pinstripe shirt-dress at a thrift store a while back but this is the first time I've worn it. (I think I'm still trying to break habit of avoiding black.) I received several compliments at work, which has increased my liking for this dress, so expect to see it again! Maybe I'll work some color in next time. Any suggestions?

There are little horses on my tights!
They're kind of hard to see, but you can click on the image to zoom in.

Pink and Orange and All the In Betweens

Today's outfit was inspired by this blog post by Elaine of "I'm Clothed Much". I had only a few minutes to snap some quick photos before work. It was unintentional, but our pictures are surprisingly similar with the lighting and hand gestures. funny, eh?

I discovered Elaine through her Weardrobe profile, but she can also be found on Chictopia. I love how her wardrobe is fairly modest in size but she finds new and creative ways to wear the same classic pieces. I especially like her bold combination of orange and pink in the photo above. It makes me wish I had bought that necklace when I saw it a JCPenney, but that would defeat the point of a modest wardrobe, which I have already failed at.

In spite of owning more clothing than I can wear, I find myself turning to my same favorite pieces, like this "polka dot" skirt. The dots are actually little crowns, as you can see. My co-worker called me a princess because of this, haha. Maybe I should hide this skirt for a while so I don't continue to wear it every week.

Strawberry Lipstick

Monday was so busy I hardly had time to think about what I was wearing, let alone take pictures, but seeing as none of these clothes had made it off of my bedroom floor and into the hamper, I decided to recreate the outfit for you. I liked the mixture of all the lipstick shades, and how they also remind me of the bag of strawberry fruit snacks I just ate.

So on Monday, my sister and I planned to walk the dog and then go to Buffalo Exchange, and I had to go to work after. I wanted to wear something that would be practical for all these activities, so I started with the jeans, grabbed my favorite comfy flats, and threw on the shirt, sweater and jacket because they were readily available, no digging required. The scarf was an afterthought because I needed something to make me look pulled together for work and then we were out the door.

Popcorn and Tomato Soup

Today's outfit is brought to you by...my lunch! That's right, popcorn and tomato soup. I also had an apple which should make my mom happy, but it decided not to participate in the making of this post. I probably should have taken pictures with my lunch, but that would have required preparation...like getting dressed before noon. I'm taking a break! (she says defensively) I did just graduate after all.

Weekly Favorites: Leopard

I recently joined an online fashion blogging community called Weardrobe, and I'm really enjoying it. Everyone's really nice and welcoming. Seeing as I now have so much inspiration at my fingertips, and I didn't really change out of my pajamas today, and I am prone to doing this at least once a week, I decided it might be a good idea to start making weekly posts of some of my favorite outfits. I might try to stick with a theme for each week, or I might not. This week's post is all about classic leopard print. I tend to be a little slow jumping onto fashion bandwagons: I've never really been a huge fan of animal print, even though it's really popular right now. However, I'm slowly warming up to the idea, and these outfits pairing leopard with eye-catching pops of color are helping to speed up the process. I'm really craving a leopard print coat or shift dress right now, but if leopard print isn't your style, you can join Weardrobe and check out more of my favorites here.

I found all these lovely ladies through Weardrobe, but they all have great blogs that you can visit simply by clicking on their image.

The Apple of My Life

Today I had just sat down to eat a delicious looking apple that I had sliced when I discovered a piece of "evidence" informing me that my father had previously used the same knife and board to cut raw chicken. The apple went in the trash, and the rest of my day continued in a similarly unfortunate manner. I hope I don't sound too pessimistic, but thank goodness this day is almost over. I have a feeling tomorrow will be much better.

I created this blog for several reasons, none of them being because I like to take pictures of myself. It's actually quite awkward and I'm not particularly photogenic. I need to remember to show handbags in these posts so I have something to do with my hands, otherwise I end up doing a lot of this:

I should start doing yoga or walking my dog or something before blogging so my mind is clear and full of positive things and I don't over-edit everything I write. I better leave it at that before I hit that backspace button again...Enough about me! How's your weekend going? Any raw food mishaps?
